The New York Public Library is one of the world's finest research libraries, open to all scholars who can make it to New York. It has a substantial Indian collection, including photographs by Bourne, Beato, W.H. Baker,

as well as from J. Forbes Watson's early The People of India series.

There are also a number of obscure books and periodicals, like issues of The Baluchistan Gazette from the 1930s and rare volumes that are unavailable elsewhere. The main reading rooms are sumptuous places for scholarship, and the building is one of the most beautiful in New York.
