A unique website based on a set of family-owned photographs, postcards and other images rescued from the recent years of turmoil in Afghanistan. Over 500 pieces are currently online. The exhibition is edited by Khalid Ziai, from whose extended family many images come from.

Afghanistan Old Photos includes much not available elsewhere, like rare color postcards, photographs of the royal family including Queen Soraya, the Jews of Afghanistan, 19th century lithographs and engravings, professional and amateur photographs.

They provide a rare glimpse of a beautiful past that has remained concealed behind the newspaper headlines. This site and the effort behind it is a welcome step towards recapturing the rich and varied history of Afghanistan.
